Steve Carroll, AKA Naig has been a professional photographer since 2001 but has had an interest in photography since he was around 12 years old.

For Christmas in 1984 he was given his first camera by his parents and soon after did his first surfing trip to Lennox head with a school camp. The renowned waves of Lennox and the natural beauty of the north coast were the ideal time and place to take his Hanimex waterproof camera with him. The shots he took on that trip inspired him to develop his photography as he loved being absorbed in the ocean and in the middle of the action. He bought his first professional camera, a Canon EOS A2 with a water proof housing in 2001 from Australian action sports photographer Scott Needham, thus paving the way for the start of his professional career.

His first published shot came in 2001 when an empty tube photograph he captured at North Narrabeen was published in tracks magazine.
Naig has always had a strong fascination with nature, the ocean and its breaking waves. He is still an avid traveller and surfer and his photographs have been published in FHM, Waves, Tracks and Australian Surfing Life magazines.

He has photographed for EMAP Publishing, Carveboard Australia, The Surfers Group, RA TV, Volcom clothing, Oneill wetsuits and Body Glove wetsuits.

In 2005 Tracks Magazine chose one of Naig’s pictures to feature as one of the best 35 shots published in the past 35 years of the Magazine and the shot was voted by the public as 19th of the 35 chosen, the first recognition of his work.
